Greetings Parents,
It's hard to believe that it's already time for our unit end parties. Below is a description of each party theme and focus as well as the time and place information for both TIS and CPE campuses.
Monday, May 18th will be the CPE GT year's end unit party in the GT classroom here at CPE, where parents and teachers are invited to view and enjoy student creations that demonstrate their acquired knowledge and skills. Creations, such as artwork, their use of technology through presentations (where they engaged in research) and analogies will be viewed at the party. Students will dress up representing the country they've chosen from our studies of the following continents: Africa, Antarctica, Australia, and Europe. We'll enjoy a variety of music representative of the continents we've studied as well as some foods. Please make plans to honor us with your presence.
TIS year's end, 70's and 80's Costume party will occur on Thursday, May 21st at 5:30 p.m. in the TIS Auditorium. A variety of 70's party snack foods (checks mix, Watergate cake, veggie trays, etc.) will be served in the lobby as parents, friends and family celebrate & view student work representative of these periods of study. Student works such as artwork, essays and various uses of technology. GT students will then put on a mini-variety show representing some of the entertainers from the two decades of study. Cole and Jonah will portray Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi also known as the Blues Brothers. They'll lip sing the song "Soul Man" and host the show. If you attend you can expect to see performances by Cindy Lauper, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, the Bangles and others. Please consider joining us. You’re welcome to dress in costume as well. You will be our honored guests.

Oct. 2014
Dear Parents,
The GT 3rd- 8th grade will have a baked goods (donated baked items) booth at the fall festival this year on Oct. 21, 2014. The festival begins at 5:30 and ends at 7:30. The GT booth will also sell iced coffee, & a variety of sodas (which I will supply, along with milk, cups, the mix and decorations). If needed, students can drop off their donated baked item to the GT classroom beginning on Oct. 20th.
The OM parents will have a separate Chili booth! “Jason’s Chili Shack”, OM parents will sell chili by the cup or bowl. I will provide the toppings (which will be a quarter extra pr. serving). We sold out last year! So this plan’s worth a repeat!!
I hope you will make time to honor us with your presence and attend the fall festival. Come hungry! It should prove to be a ghoulishly good time.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Stevens

2014-15 Elementary GT and Intermediate level GT Units of Study Announcements
Dear Parents,
This year at the elementary level in GT we will study the continents of Australia, Europe and Africa. As you know we studied Asia, North America and South American Continents last year. My goal is to build their interests and skills in several key curricular areas: Geography (mapping skills, land forms), Social Studies (regarding respect for diverse cultures), Science (current events such as Ebola Virus and the scientist who are working toward a vaccine or medication to help more survive it), language Arts (research and writing) and Art of course (respond through art).
During our study of Australia, we will of course explore The Great Barrier Reef (the worlds largest coral reef system) that’s located off the coast of Australia.
My plan is to create (with the help of my students) a large display in the title one hallway to stimulate student interest in art, science, and literature for not only my GT students but also all of the K-2 Enrichment classes that will travel through the artistic depiction of the Barrier Reef on a weekly basis.
We study Broad topics in the Gifted Program to insure that the curriculum is representative of diverse interests, that’s beyond the scope of the regular classroom so that GT standards are clearly met.
GT Units of Study At the Intermediate Level 5-8
In years past, we have conducted lot’s of research and read many great literary works connected to our units of study; Shakespearian Tragedies, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.
Units such as:
v The Renaissance (2011-12)
v Victorian Period (Dickens life/ Queen Elisabeth) 2011-12
v The Roaring 20’s (2012-13)
v The Great Depression of the 30’s (2012-13)
v Many elements about World War II and how it effected a great change on the American culture, this was so we could truly understand the 50’s (2013-14)
v The 50’s Rock and Roll decade (2013-14)
v The 60’s, The Vietnam War, The Cold War, which brought about even more changes in the American culture (2013-14)
v This year is the 70’s and 80’s decades of course! (2014-15)
The book we’ll read is titled My Side of the Mountain by: Jean Craighead George.
I greatly anticipate a highly stimulating, instructive school year! So, in closing if you find that you have any questions regarding your gifted child’s needs, please feel free to call upon me.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kimberly Stevens

Above you'll find the Intermediate level GT presentations for the 50's and 60's units of study. Unfortunately, the Elementary presentation files are too large since they contain talking head video clips of each students synthesis of their studies. I tried to burn them to CD but they were too large for that too. So, one parent sent me an 8 GB flash drive. That worked! I put both presentations and all the field trip pictures on it too. So, elementary GT parents, that's the only way to get you a copy of their wonderful work. If you choose to send a jump drive for these files at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year, please remember to write your name and child's name on your new flash drive, so I can easily keep up with who's is who's.
Additionally, above I've also included the spring newsletter (lots of student writing) and an informative AGATE newsletter.
